Steps to Install a Portable Dam in Water

If you are tasked with dewatering a site, you will understand that what you are about to undertake is a task where careful consideration is key. If the proper procedures are not followed, then expensive and time-consuming delays could be the result. Using a water filled, portable dam such as a cofferdam will lessen the likelihood of delays. This is because installing a portable dam in water is a much less complicated and less lengthy process than many alternative solutions.

The correct steps need to be followed, though, and here are the steps that you need to follow if you are installing a portable dam in either static or dynamic (i.e. moving) water.

Steps to Install a Portable Dam in Static Water

The process of installing a portable dam in static water is the simplest dam installation process possible, aside from of course installing a dam on dry land in preparation for an influx of water, such as flooding. Not only is the process simple, but such an installation normally, on average, is three to five times speedier than alternative dewatering solutions.

When using an inflatable dam in static water, all you need to do is unroll it and then float it into the position in which it is required. Such dams are built to be buoyant, so during the deployment phase they will not sink below the surface.

Once they are in position (anchoring them is advised, or at least finding some way of holding them in place) it is merely a case of pumping water into the dam. The increasing weight of the water will cause the dam to sink until it is heavy enough to form the required barrier.

Steps to Install a Portable Dam in Dynamic Water

The process of installing a portable dam in dynamic water is not that much different than the process of installing a portable dam in static water. The only difference is that the dam needs to be anchored much more rigidly once it has been maneuvered into position. Despite the extra care required, using a portable dam in dynamic water is still much more beneficial than using alternatives. Construction of a dam within dynamic water is seldom cost-effective and can be an extremely difficult process.
